Update on our fall marathoners!
Last week, I highlighted Noni, Guntur, who completed a half marathon in Brazil as part of his training for the fall marathon. This week, we have an update from Liz Bergst:

Running (and running, and running, and running) for change!
As Lucy mentioned in previous blog posts, I’m training for the Chicago Marathon this fall, along with MHIR colleague Anyonya Guntur, and also my husband Bret and my daughter Bea, and another running friend. This week we had a big run!
Training for a marathon is hard work- this will be a first marathon for Bea and I (and Anyonya!) and a second for Bret, and we're learning a lot about blisters, leg cramps, chafing, what shoes and shorts and socks to wear and definitely what not to wear! We’ve worn through the treads on the sneakers we bought in March! This week our long run is 13 miles, half the total distance we’ll be running in October. We’re equal parts nervous and excited thinking about that finish line!
But we’re running for something far greater than crossing a finish line. We’re running for Team World Vision because we believe every child deserves access to clean, safe water.
In our training runs our biggest "water worries" are how to carry enough with us to keep hydrated. But around the world, millions of children and families still walk miles each day just to collect water that is often unsafe to drink. That daily journey steals time from school, work, and simply being a child. More than 1000 children under age 5 die every day from disease caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and improper hygiene. Through World Vision, clean water is transforming lives by improving health, restoring hope, and creating opportunities for families and entire communities to thrive.
$50 = clean water for 1 person. If you feel moved to do so, we would love it if you would help us reach our team goal of $12,000 so that 240 lives will be forever changed! We are currently at 17% of our team goal. Would you consider donating to support us in this work? Every training run reminds us that while we choose to run, many people have no choice but to walk for water. That perspective fuels every mile we log and every step we’ll take through the streets of Chicago. We wholeheartedly believe this mission is worth every sacrifice, every early morning, every sore muscle, and every mile. Thanks for reading, and for your support and positive vibes as we continue training!

PS: Putting in a plug as well here for Anyonya, who is training with us for Chicago, and running with Team Activate supporting the Mitochondrial Foundation (Support NoniHERE) and for Liz Scharnetzki, running the Philadelphia Marathon with Team DetermiNation raising money for the American Cancer Society (Support Liz S HERE). It’s so fun to be sharing marathon training journeys with them!
