Celebrate being green in your community! The Town of Scarborough is hosting its second annual Sustainable Scarborough Day, bringing together everyone from the environmentally conscious to the eco-curious for a day of learning and fun.

Meet with experts, local businesses, nonprofits, and enthusiasts on topics ranging from sustainable living, efficient homes, transportation, landscapes, recreation, waste management, land conservation, and climate action.

All activities will be based at Wentworth School. Test drive an electric vehicle, listen to some live music, attend a workshop, do a fun, hands-on activity, learn from experts.

This is a family friendly event with activities for all ages!

Come hungry! Local food businesses Terra Firma and Nate & Ollie's Rolled Ice Cream will have food available for purchase.

Live Music

Get ready to boogie! The Maine Marimba Ensemble will delight your eardrums with their unique Zimbabwean music, all played on handcrafted marimbas. Live music runs from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.

National Drive Electric Week Event

Sustainable Scarborough Day is an official National Drive Electric Week event! Test drive exciting new EV models, hear from EV owners, and learn more about available state and federal EV incentives. EV test drives will be available from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm in the Wentworth School parking lot. E-bikes test rides will also be available throughout the entire event.

New MHIR staff introduction - Melissa Sassman

Melissa is a Maine native and grew up in Saco. Though she has traveled and lived or spent considerable time in Kansas, Virginia, and Washington D.C., nothing compares to Maine. She completed both her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Southern Maine. Her Master’s was completed under the guidance of Dr. Doug Currie who studies developmental neurobiology and the effects of various toxins and toxicants on cells of the nervous system. She taught at USM for 10 years before leaving academia to get back into the lab. She is very excited to be a part of Dr. Rosato’s Lab.  Melissa LOVES to eat, read, go for walks and hikes with her dogs, and do yoga. She is also licensed to sell real estate and is a certified yoga instructor!
