New MHIR staff introduction - Ryan Reno

Hi everyone! This past summer, I was a SURP intern and now I am working full-time as a Research Assistant in the Lynes Lab. I recently graduated from Colby College with a double major in Biology and Classical Civilization (the study of ancient Greece and Rome), where I also played offensive line for the football team. In the near future, I am planning on pursing an accelerated nursing degree and hope to work at Maine Medical Center.  When I am not working, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family, spending time at the lake, watching anime, and going to the gym. I also enjoy bird watching and recently joined a bowling league with my father. I am very excited to be working here and continuing my research from this past summer!

New MHIR staff introduction - Melissa Sassman

Melissa is a Maine native and grew up in Saco. Though she has traveled and lived or spent considerable time in Kansas, Virginia, and Washington D.C., nothing compares to Maine. She completed both her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Southern Maine. Her Master’s was completed under the guidance of Dr. Doug Currie who studies developmental neurobiology and the effects of various toxins and toxicants on cells of the nervous system. She taught at USM for 10 years before leaving academia to get back into the lab. She is very excited to be a part of Dr. Rosato’s Lab.  Melissa LOVES to eat, read, go for walks and hikes with her dogs, and do yoga. She is also licensed to sell real estate and is a certified yoga instructor!
