Outbreak, Watch Update

R6/Bean 2 has been moved to Outbreak status, joining R3 and P6, as of Friday, Sept. 23.

R2 and R5 have moved to Watch status.

Testing for care team members in Outbreak units this week will be on Tuesday, Sept. 27, and Friday, Sept. 30, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Dana Center. Testing for those in Watch units will be on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 6 a.m. – 10 a.m.

For the most up-to-date information on which units are on Watch or Outbreak status, visit the Epidemiology and Infection Prevention intranet page.

All care team members are reminded to remain vigilant and:

·         Follow all PPE guidelines at work.

·         Ensure that patients are given a fresh mask daily.

·         Consistently reinforce to patients and our visitors the importance of proper masking.

Apples and Honey for Rosh Hashanah

On Tuesday, September 27, the Impressions Café will have a variety of apples and honey for sale as well as traditional honey cake in recognition of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Dipping apples into honey is a traditional celebratory dish on the holiday. Apples, honey and honey cake symbolize hopes for a sweet new year.

Last Week to Finish Mandatory Training

This is a reminder that all MaineHealth care team members, clinicians, contracted personnel and volunteers must complete the Privacy and IT Security Training, Compliance and Confidentiality Agreement eLearning modules each year in compliance with federal and state regulations.

If you have not yet completed the training, please set aside some time to do so. You must complete all five modules by this Friday, September 30, 2022. If you were hired prior to July 1, 2022 and completed the modules during your orientation, you must complete them again before Sept. 30, 2022. Each module takes about 5-15 minutes to complete. They do not have to be completed all at once.

Read the instructions on how to access the training modules and view FAQs for more information about this required training. Questions? Contact the IT Help Desk at 207-662-6400.

Reminder: Ice Truck Coming to MMC Tomorrow

The Zephyr Ice Truck will be in the MMC Courtyard Tuesday, Sept. 27 with tasty Hawaiian Ice for sale!

Stop by to get yours starting at 11 a.m. The truck will remain onsite until 2 p.m. or when sold out, whichever comes first.

Weekly Construction Update

The Malone Family Tower:

·         There are over 150 workers on the site every day.

·         The exterior curtain wall/glazing will continue to be installed this week on the building. Exterior window frames/glazing are being installed.

·         The steel columns and beams and steel decking for the building are being put in place. Over 84 percent of the structural steel has been installed and Turner is on target to complete steel erection in October.

·         Fireproofing is being installed on the structure.

·         Steel stud framing, exterior sheathing, layout and drywall is being installed.

·         Mechanical and electrical infrastructure is being delivered and installed in the building on all levels.

MFT ‘Topping-Off’ Beam to be Raised Wednesday

The “Topping-Off” steel beam for the Malone Family Tower will be lifted into place on Wednesday, Sept. 28, between 10 and 11 a.m., as part of the traditional construction ceremony.

The lofting of this beam – which was signed in August by Care Team members – may possibly be viewed from the top floors of the Bean building, on the Congress Street side. Watch eNews in the next week for a link to a video of the beam raising.

The “Topping Off” ceremony is a long-standing tradition amongst builders, in which they typically attach a small tree or branch onto the beam as part of the tradition. In case of inclement weather, the beam will be lofted on Thursday, Sept. 29, same time.

Nurses Ratify First Union Contract

On Wednesday Sept. 20 and Thursday Sept. 21, nurses at MMC’s Bramhall, Brighton and Scarborough campuses cast votes to ratify (accept) the tentative contract agreement recently negotiated by MMC and the nurses’ union. The three-year contract will go into effect in January with some provisions beginning in October. Thank you and congratulations to each of the bargaining teams.

Consider All Patient Information – “The Record”

Privacy rules allow you to access patient information only if you need to do so for a purpose directly related to doing your job.

Unless you are directly involved with patient care or have a direct job related purpose, it is a HIPAA violation to:

·         Access information regarding friends or relatives

·         Look at the ED Tracker Board or the census in any unit

·         Look in the medical records of cases that have been in the news

·         Print off medical record information for a co-worker even if they ask

·         Look at schedules or information in other units. For example, looking at the OR schedule if you have no job related reason for doing so or looking at the schedule for a unit if you are not actively working in that unit at the time.

Please Complete Your PPID Training in LMS

This is a reminder that all care team members were assigned mandatory training in the Learning Management System (LMS) related to the new ‘Red Rule’ on Positive Patient Identification (PPID). If you have not completed your Red Rule training, please do so as soon as possible.

A Red Rule is an expectation that must be followed. Care team members must positively identify a patient prior to an initial patient service encounter using two independent patient identifiers (primarily name and date of birth). Please see this document for reference.

The PPID policy is located on Policy Manager. If you have questions, please talk to your manager.
