MMC Achieves 3rd Comprehensive Stroke Certification
The Joint Commission has certified Maine Medical Center as a Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC) for the third time.
Offered in collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, the Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Certification means that MMC is dedicated to raising the bar for performance as well as evaluating and evolving the care our patients receive at every touch in the stroke care continuum. This patient-centric approach is better for patients and families.
CSC is the highest level of certification for hospitals with specific abilities to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases. CSC distinction is achieved by only 5 percent of hospitals in the nation.
Congratulations to all the teams involved whose hard work and high quality patient care has led to this accomplishment!

Reminder: Tuition.io Provides Support for Student Loan Forgiveness
A limited waiver may help you get student loan forgiveness. As a MaineHealth care team member, you have earned it through your work and public service! With a new education assistance benefit, Tuition.io will help you navigate Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) step by step! There is no cost to you or your family. You have until Oct. 31, 2022 to take advantage of the PSLF limited waiver opportunity.
Over 75 percent of health care employees who engage with the Tuition.io platform qualify for PSLF, and the average projected forgiveness under PSLF is over $68,000 for health care employees. Care team members who work at a non-profit organization, such as MaineHealth, who have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time, may qualify for forgiveness of their remaining federal student loan balance.
Tuition.io manages the program for MaineHealth and will serve as your point of contact for all questions related to the platform. Contact support@tuition.io or call 855-353-9395 from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. For FAQs and video recordings, visit the employee benefits section.
Get started in less than 10 minutes! Log into the Tuition.io portal and create a profile. Visit mainehealth.tuition.io/register for a registration link and use your email ending with @mainehealth.org.
Volunteers Needed for Maine Marathon Medical Tent
The Maine Marathon will be returning on Sunday, October 2, 2022, and the MMC Sports Medicine Fellowship will be running the medical tent. Volunteers are needed to help with medical care along the race route and at the medical tent located at the finish line. The marathon is an up-and-back course starting at Back Cove in Portland running up through Falmouth, Cumberland and Yarmouth, and finishing along Back Cove.
This is a great opportunity for learners of all levels to gain more experience taking care of athletes with a variety of conditions common to race medicine, in a supportive environment with plenty of teachers available.
Shifts generally run from 6 a.m. - 3 p.m. Volunteers will be provided with food throughout the day and a volunteer medical T-shirt. All CDC recommendations will be followed. We request that all volunteers receive their COVID-19 vaccine prior to race day.
If you are interested please click here to sign up. If you have questions or if you have trouble accessing the form, please email Emma Cronk with your name, title, email, phone number, vaccination status and T-shirt size.

Reminder: PPID Red Rule Training
Care team members were assigned mandatory training in the Learning Management System (LMS) on July 1 related to the new ‘Red Rule’ on Positive Patient Identification (PPID). This training should now be complete. If you have not completed your Red Rule training, please do so today.
A Red Rule is an expectation that must always be followed. Care team members must always positively identify a patient prior to a patient service encounter using two independent patient identifiers (primarily name and date of birth). The PPID policy is located on Policy Manager.
If you have questions, please talk to your manager.
Reminder: Kronos Replaces OneStaff on Sept. 17
Care team members and leaders who currently use OneStaff for shift scheduling will transition to Kronos Scheduler (Advanced or Basic) on Sept. 17. Kronos Scheduler offers several advantages for leaders and care team members. To prepare for the transition, leaders should have completed their LMS training as of Aug. 28 and care team members should complete their training by Sept. 17.
Log into the LMS to identify if you will be using Kronos Advanced or Basic (only leaders will need to complete LMS modules for Basic). Please refer to the Kronos Advanced Scheduler Resource page on the intranet for more information.
