MaineHealth News & Updates

Mileage Reimbursement Rate to Increase July 1

It is the policy of MaineHealth to reimburse employees for travel costs associated with hospital/work-related activities. The rate used is the standard mileage rate established by the IRS each calendar year. Effective July 1, 2022, the IRS mileage rate will increase by four cents to 62.5 cents per mile. As a result, MaineHealth’s employee reimbursement rate for business miles traveled with their own vehicle will also become 62.5 cents per mile for miles traveled on or after July 1, 2022.

The updated 2022 mileage reimbursement form can be found here. For 2022 travel prior to July 1, please use the form found here.

Travel Differently: Get Rewarded for Greener Trips

With high gas prices and the recent relaunch of GO MAINE, there is no better time for MaineHealth care team members to help reduce vehicle miles traveled and meet greenhouse gas emissions goals. Individual benefits include:

·         Find Rides. GO MAINE members have access to an interactive mobile and web app with a Trip Planner that lists travel options for any route in Maine. The Trip Planner provides details on carpools, vanpools, local transit, mass transit, Park & Ride options, designated bicycle routes, and more.

·         Record Your Trips and Get Rewards. Whether you’re already reducing your travel or want to get started, get rewarded for your efforts by earning reward points that add up to money-saving offers from local and national businesses, stores and restaurants. You can even enter monthly gift card drawings.

·         Emergency Ride Home. GO MAINE’s Emergency Ride Home program covers the cost of a ride home for participating members, providing important peace of mind if you must work unscheduled overtime or deal with a qualified emergency.

·         Save Money. Using any of GO MAINE’s numerous options rather than traveling by single occupancy vehicle saves you money.

·         Feel Good. You can contribute to the State’s efforts to meet our emissions reduction goals. When GO MAINE members record trips, you can track your immediate impact by reducing vehicle miles traveled, gasoline consumption, and CO2 emissions.

GO MAINE is free and easy. You’ll get 1,000 reward points just for signing up. Sign up for GO MAINE today!

Similar programs with comparable perks also exist in New Hampshire, such as the Commute Smart program.

Innovator Spotlight: Reimagining Hospital Gowns with NewGownTM

https://comms.mainehealth.org/PoliteMail/images/NewGown%20Video%20Pic.pngPatients with an altered mental status are a common sight on the orthopedic, neurological and trauma units at Maine Medical Center. For years, Neuroscience Patient Navigator Sara Cox, CNRN, observed patients pull at their medical lines and tubes due to discomfort. Many patients wear “mitts” to prevent interruptions to their treatment, and transitional care facilities cannot accept patients wearing mitts, so discharge may be delayed. Sara was inspired to find a way to help and reimagined the traditional hospital gown to accommodate neuro-compromised patients with comfort and proper coverage. Learn more about Sara’s innovation journey and how she is making an impact on patient care.
