New MMCRI staff introduction - NIkko Zurawski


Hi Everyone! My name is Nikko and I just moved to Maine all the way from Nebraska. I was originally born in New Jersey and I've lived in Puerto Rico and Colorado as well. I made the decision to move here after vacationing here last October (yes I am one of those people who is in love with everything Fall). I fell in love with Maine in just five days and knew I needed to make my home here. Outside of work you can find me in a forest or other state or national park. My other hobbies include cooking, anything related to baseball (lifelong Cubs fan who's never been to Chicago), and trying to be the best cat dad ever. I look forward to getting to know all of you!

New MHIR staff introduction - Melissa Sassman

Melissa is a Maine native and grew up in Saco. Though she has traveled and lived or spent considerable time in Kansas, Virginia, and Washington D.C., nothing compares to Maine. She completed both her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Southern Maine. Her Master’s was completed under the guidance of Dr. Doug Currie who studies developmental neurobiology and the effects of various toxins and toxicants on cells of the nervous system. She taught at USM for 10 years before leaving academia to get back into the lab. She is very excited to be a part of Dr. Rosato’s Lab.  Melissa LOVES to eat, read, go for walks and hikes with her dogs, and do yoga. She is also licensed to sell real estate and is a certified yoga instructor!
