Boosters to be Available for Some Care Team Members

Vaccine boosters will be available for health care workers who initially received Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines beginning this week.

Instructions on how to sign up for an appointment will be sent via email to all care team members this week.

If you received a Moderna vaccine you are eligible for a booster shot at six months or more after your initial series. If you received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, booster shots are also recommended for those who are 18 and older and who were vaccinated two or more months ago. Click here for more information on eligibility.

Eligible care team members may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some people may have a preference for the vaccine type that they originally received and others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots.

As with the earlier administration of the Pfizer boosters, we will be holding clinics in the MMC Dana Center for eligible MMC, MMP, MaineHealth, NorDx and Maine Behavioral Health care team members working in the greater Portland area.

Sign-ups will be done via MyChart. Colleagues who don’t have a MyChart account can sign up easily at mychart.mainehealth.org. If you have technical questions about MyChart, the MyChart Customer Support Team is available 24/7 by calling (855) 255-2300.

In addition to Moderna and J&J boosters, the team will again be offering Pfizer boosters to any who need them, and who received their second dose at least six months ago.

Start With Self Care: Power of Movement

MaineHealth Works on Wellness (WOW) council continues to share tips and tools to help you manage life’s competing demands and explore ways to boost your well-being. This week’s self-care tip is the Power of Movement.

Regular and consistent exercise can increase energy levels and metabolism.
It’s true - regular physical activity can decrease fatigue and increase overall wellbeing.

Try some exercises to boost your energy, like walking, swimming or biking. Here’s a tip to remember: Counter fatigue with your feet. You’ll be amazed at how even a short, brisk walk can boost your energy. It is the ideal antidote to stress-related fatigue, especially those mid-afternoon doldrums.

Weekly Construction Update

The Malone Family Tower

·         Concrete infill of retaining wall continues.

·         Foundation wall concrete is ongoing.

·         Concrete slab and foundation layouts continue.

·         Continuing trucking deliveries and removal of materials.

Extra Traffic to Impact GilmanMMC Loading Docks

On Monday, Nov. 8, and Thursday, Nov. 18, contractors working on Maine Medical Center’s Malone Family Tower will be orchestrating large concrete pours.

These pours will increase truck traffic up Gilman Street, past the hospital loading dock area and onto the access road. Unlike previous concrete pours, Gilman Street will stay open, but will experience extra truck traffic. Flaggers will be deployed to help with traffic flow.

There may be slight delays to access the loading docks given these operations. MMC Departments are asked to alert vendors, and, if possible to reschedule and avoid non-essential deliveries and pick-ups at the loading docks on those days.

The work will start at 6 a.m. each day and run until 5 p.m. Site work involving concrete finishing will continue each night until 10 p.m. – a quiet operation that proceeds as the concrete sets.

This work is weather dependent; rain dates are Nov. 11 and Nov. 22, respectively.

Miracle Treat Day at Dairy Queen

Eat ice cream for a great cause! If you’re looking to show some sweet support for The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, head to your local Dairy Queen this Thursday, Oct. 28, for Miracle Treat Day.

On this special day, at least $1 of every Blizzard sold – any size, any flavor – will directly benefit BBCH.

Find a participating DQ location here.
