YOGA FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE, PEACE AND WELL BEING JULY/AUGUST 2020

Yoga for Social Justice, Peace and Well Being
                                July 23rd-August 18th, 2020
  • May all beings be well, content, happy and free & May I contribute to that happiness and freedom for all.

This yoga mantra is the heart of practicing yoga in the world, in our day to day night to night life. In this summer program for 16 to 22 year olds, I'll offer philosophies, postures, pranayama (breathing with intention) and other practices that awaken and empower you for this transformative time. Building wisdom and resilience for yourself, you can then share practices with others to help keep them well, calm and centered through challenges and celebrations, both.  With yoga and mindfulness, you'll be well prepared to cope with or help with stress, engage in positive action and activism, reflect and self study, recover and replenish. You'll be encouraged in the areas of radical self acceptance, sense of purpose, finding your voice and backing it with wisdom and heart. All learning will be centered in social consciousness, present times, and your individual concerns, voices and visions.

I, Robin, am a yoga teacher and trainer of teachers with experiences in public education, radio broadcasting and intuitive arts. I taught in Portland Public Schools for 16 years until 2009. I've been teaching yoga for 7 years and offering workshops and specialized training for all of that time. In 2019, I co-founded Maine Yogafest School of Yoga. You will receive a certificate for this training from MYF School, and if you choose to continue this will be the foundation of a 200 hour certification training that will continue through the rest of 2020. (more info on that once we form this group! I can't wait to meet you and for you to meet each other).

Reach me with any questions or for more information at robinivy88@gmail.com
You'll be able to sign your own waiver if you're 18 or over.
16-17 year olds, your parent or guardian signs the waiver of liability and please have your designated adult contact me with any questions about content or more understanding. I welcome that, and I welcome you!

One of our shared goals is to diversify and be more inclusive, to share this practice of humanity with everyone. To encourage this in our communities, full or partial scholarship awards for BIPOC will happily be granted upon request.

Tuition is $300 for 20 hours
Tentative schedule is 3-5:30 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays July 23rd to August 18th
Need a payment plan or other assistance? Contact me to arrange.

Classes will be held primarily on zoom, and if we get together in person in the Portland area, physical distance will be honored fully and the session will be open to everyone through the Zoom online platform too.

Suggested reading list will be provided as well as handouts you'll have forever.
Penciled in schedule is 3-5:30 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays with alternate times possible once we know who's in and what your schedule is like. When you contact me, tell me days or times you would not be available.

I also plan to record the sessions for later viewing, but it's much better if you're there live to participate as often as possible. You can use Zoom on your phone or another device, as you most likely know.

To show interest and apply for the program, please email me & tell me something about you such as whether you're local to Portland, Maine or not, if and where you go to school or work, and how you think this would be valuable to you and support other people you know. Yoga experience is not necessary, but let me know if you have a yoga or meditation practice or if this is brand new territory for you. If you are involved in any groups, are participating or learning about anti-racism, or have other special interests, indicate any of that. All are welcome, I'd just like to know a little bit about who you are.

I'm very excited and grateful to Emma Ivy and Liv Ivy for helping me organize this and connect with some of you. As soon as we have a group together we can finalize the schedule and other details. In light of that, please email me by July 11th if you hope to be part of this. I am aware that some of you may be going back to college and I'm trying to arrange the schedule so you can finish first, but you are welcome to join us virtually if you leave before we conclude.

I feel this is the beginning of something really sustainable and effective, to help us create more change as well as lasting relationships. Let's do this!
