Non-profit supporting patients who need insulin - Insulin for Life USA

Thanks to Liz Bergst for this contribution!

Hi all- one of our selected summer students Dennis Kalloor, reached out to let me know about a non-profit that he and some of his friends have put together to raise awareness and funds for those struggling to access insulin. Please see the info below from Dennis to learn more! We look forward to seeing Dennis next summer at MMCRI (working with Becca Hutchinson at CORE) when the Summer Student Research program resumes after this summer’s suspension.

Message from Dennis:

I hope you are doing well. I wanted to reach out to you regarding a non profit organization 2 of my friends from Northeastern and I started this past month. The cause is Insulin Awareness (link here) and we started an initiative to raise money for patients struggling to pay for Insulin as unemployment rates are over 20% now. Over 7 million people in the United States need insulin to survive and yet a single vial can cost hundreds of dollars. This pandemic has made it even harder for patients to afford insulin and with patients losing their jobs and their health insurance being a benefit with their employment, many are fighting for life. Our next plan of action is spread the word about the organization and continue to collect donations and transfer funds to Insulin for Life USA.  I was wondering if you could or you know people at MMC who could help me spread awareness about this new organization and website as we are trying to collect both donations and petitions for this cause. Thank you so much and take care!
